Sports day

To conclude her internship Ingrid organized the annual Sports day. This was the first time it was held in Apemanim. Early in the morning all volunteers present went to the school grounds, greeted the Headmaster and other teachers and went to work.

With red and white ribbon the needed spaces for various games were outlined and accessories were put in place.

When more teachers were present the children were divided into small groups and guided to their first match.

The winning team!

Holiday

All schools in Ghana are currently closed for the summer break. Some private schools continue with summer school, like the AndyGrace Academy where Marloes and Nadeschda assisted Rita with art, singing and math. Rita has already thought of new things to create with the children!

Linda provided summer school at Tamarinde Daycare where she welcomed children from both Apemanim and Kokobeng. She taught them all kinds of things from how to make a puzzle to how to brush your teeth!

New Life Home never closes it’s doors and the children don’t go anywhere except when volunteers like Anne take them to the zoo and give them an unforgettable experience!

With each game hosted by a volunteer and/or teacher two groups competed. Occasionally a volunteer would help out the losing team to give them some extra spirit. This often lead to more cheers and laughter.

When the challenge was finished every participant received a snack and a drink. Meanwhile the results were added and different kinds of gifts were spread out on a table top.

At the end of an energetic morning the winning group was welcomed to the improvised tribune with a loud applause! They were given medals and a small gift. The other groups followed and happily received their applause and gift as well.

After cleaning up we all mounted the land rover and waved the children goodbye.

What a wonderful morning, well done Ingrid and all other volunteers!
